Grilled ham and cheese sandwiches are smoky, crispy, and decadent. This recipe transforms your everyday sliced white bread and deli-sliced ham into something impressive with the help of gouda cheese and freshly grated garlic. The bread gets super crisp, the ham takes on a bacon-like flavor thanks to the wood pellets, and the cheese oozes out with every bite.

- Step 1: Preheat your Z Grills Pellet Grill (preferably with branded wood pellets) or other wood pellet grill to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Step 2: Place the grill pan or skillet on the grill and close the grill to preheat.
- Step 3: Meanwhile, butter the outside of each slice of bread.
- Step 4: Combine the cheese and garlic in a bowl, then divide the cheese between the slices of bread. Follow with the ham and sliced tomato, if using. Close each sandwich.
- Step 5: Transfer the sandwiches to the grill pan or skillet. Use a grill press to flatten the sandwiches.
- Step 6: Close the grill’s lid and cook for 3 minutes.
- Step 7: Uncover, flip the sandwiches, and grill for another 3 minutes.
- Step 8: Remove the sandwiches from the grill and serve.
