Fire Went Out Mid-Cook — What to Do

  • Check the hopper: Running out of pellets is the most common cause. Refill the hopper if it's empty.
  • Do not open the grill immediately: Wait a few minutes to confirm that the fire is truly out, then turn the grill on.
  • Check if the ignition rod is turning red or not.
  • Check if there is air flow to the firepot.
  • Check if Auger pushes pellets into the fire pot or not.
  • If ash covers the ignition rod, you need to clear the firepot: Remove the grates, drip pan, and heat baffle. Clean out all ash and any charred pellet debris from the firepot — they won’t re-ignite properly.
  • Restart the grill: Go through the full startup and ignition sequence to get the grill back to operating temperature.
