How Long Will a Full Hopper Last?

Pellet consumption depends on your grill size, cooking temperature, and ambient weather. These are average data tested and calculated from multiple products.

Temperature SettingAverage Pellet Usage (lbs/hour)
180°F0.60 lbs/hr
275°F1.09 lbs/hr
450°F2.28 lbs/hr
500°F2.69 lbs/hr

Note: Figures are provided for reference only. Pellet consumption is mainly affected by factors such as grill chamber size, ambient temperature, and pellet heating value.

Cold weather (below 40°F) increases consumption by roughly 20–30%. Full double-wall insulated models (7052B, 11002B) and units with a double-wall base (700D, 700D3, 700D6, 700D7, 700D4E WiFi) perform significantly more efficiently in low temperatures.

⚠️ Do not let the hopper run empty during cooking. If the auger runs out of pellets, the fire will go out. If this happens and the temperature stays below 120°F for more than 20 minutes, you will need to refill the pellets and restart the grill. For long overnight smokes, check the hopper level before bed and refill as needed.
