Ash buildup in the firepot is the #1 cause of temperature issues and LER error codes. Clean it every 3–5 cooks.
Method 1: Ash Cleanout Drawer or Bottom Ash Cup
Ensure the grill is completely cool. Turn off and unplug the grill, then allow it to cool to room temperature (at least 1 hour after cooking). Never attempt to remove hot ash, as it can cause serious burns or fire hazards.
Locate the ash drawer or bottom ash cup. On 1000 Series models, the ash drawer is located at the lower rear of the grill body. For models like the 550B4, 7002C2E WiFi, and 10502B WiFi, the ash cup is located at the bottom of the grill body, near the firepot.
Pull out the ash drawer or remove the ash cup. For models with an ash drawer, carefully pull the drawer out horizontally. For models with an ash cup, simply twist and remove it from underneath the grill.
Remove ash safely. Use the scraper or a small heat-safe brush to gently sweep loose ash from the firepot into the ash cup or a fireproof bucket. Do not tap or scrape the firepot excessively.
Proper ash disposal. Immediately move the container with ashes away from the grill, seal it, and let it cool in a safe, non-flammable location. Dispose of it only after confirming no embers remain.
Reinstall the ash drawer or cup. Push the ash drawer back horizontally until it locks securely. For ash cup models, twist the cup tightly into place.
Quick pre-cook check. Before your next cooking, ensure the ash drawer or cup is tightly closed. This maintains proper airflow and prevents irregular temperatures or smoke leakage.
Method 2: Manual Ash Removal (All Models)
Let the grill cool completely.
Remove the grill grates, drip tray, and heat baffle to expose the firepot.
Once you confirm there are no remaining embers, use a small shop vacuum to remove ash from the firepot and the bottom of the barrel.
Wipe down the interior walls with a dry cloth or paper towel.
