How to Switch Pellet Flavors (Emptying the Hopper) (By Model)

When switching between pellet flavors, you'll need to empty remaining pellets from the hopper. The method differs by model.

Models With Hopper Cleanout Door :

450B, 700D3, 700D6, 700D7, 700D4E WiFi, 1000D4E WiFi, 7002C2E WiFi, 11002B WiFi, 7052B WiFi, 10502B WiFi

Turn the grill off and let it cool completely.

Locate the cleanout door or screw on the back of the hopper.

Note: For the 10502B WiFi model, after removing the butterfly screw on the back of the controller completely, pull the baffle out from the housing. The pellets inside the hopper will fall right out from the bottom for cleaning.

Place a bucket directly below the cleanout opening.

Open the cleanout door —The pellets flow out by gravity into the bucket.

Close the cleanout door securely before loading new pellets.

⚠️ Always follow the instructions on the hopper discharge label for proper operation.

Standard Models Without Cleanout Door

700D, 7002B, 1000D, etc.

Turn the grill off and let it cool completely.

Use a shop vacuum to vacuum the pellets directly from the hopper — reach down to the bottom of the hopper to remove all the remaining pellets.

Alternatively, scoop the pellets out manually with a small cup.

Only fully empty the hopper if you need a completely pure flavor profile. Run the grill briefly at a low temperature to burn off any remaining pellets in the auger tube, then load the new flavor.

💡 Pro Tip: You don't always need to fully empty the hopper when switching flavors — mixing wood types is common and often produces interesting results.
