The black plastic pole with the magnetic base is the 1000D4E Wi-Fi antenna, NOT a temperature probe! Do not place it inside the grill or even on the side of the hot grill, as it will melt! It is bundled underneath the hopper together with the power cable. The best locations for the antenna are on top of the hopper lid, at the rear, or on the side of the hopper where it can receive the strongest Wi-Fi signal. If you have dogs or small children, make sure to keep it out of their reach to protect it from little teeth and hands.
